DRAFT
Fall/Winter 2016
there be dragons...
G’day! Kudos to Australia for their broad plans to boost adoption of agtech including big data and analytics. Down Under the government plays a key role in mobilizing the agtech ecosystem. In September, The Society of Precision Agriculture Australia SPAA invited me to speak at the 19th PA Symposium [supported by the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC)] where BLAH BLAH BLAH blah blah blah
And from Phoenix in October: Shout out to the Meister Media team on the successful, inaugural PrecisionAg® Vision Conference. Technology giants IBM, Dell EMC and Bosch [dragons] joined us at the conference as well as the speakers from outside of agriculture such as the ‘Dean of Big Data’ and the Mems & Sensor Industry Group with unparalleled knowledge on their topic to lessons and insights from the health and oil & gas industries. The true value was the diverse group of attendees all intently sharing, listening and puzzling knowing we are on the cusp of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Some discussion centered on trying to uncover the next great ‘disruptor’ or ‘Uber’ in the agriculture sector it was Kip Tom who matter-of-factly shared on the IoT panel that "Farmers who don't embrace these technologies could be left behind." And I agree - it will be external forces, such as the consumer via the large food companies that will impact agtech adoption. BLAH BLAH BLAH blah blah blah

Precision Ag’s Role in Getting Nitrogen Right For a Better Environment
by Joseph Byrum, PhD, Senior R&D and Strategic Marketing, Syngenta
The most obvious payoff of advanced nitrogen optimization tools is the extra bushels at harvest time. For the farmer struggling to make it through depressed commodity prices, big savings on input costs are also hard to ignore. Yet the greatest benefit of all would be measured in the environment.
Nitrogen: The Key to Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions
by Joseph Byrum, PhD, Senior R&D and Strategic Marketing, Syngenta
Time will tell which solution will deliver higher yields, greater profits and a more benign environmental profile. But it is clear that precision ag will play a key role in improving nitrogen efficiency. The good news is that improvements are possible now that they make financial sense for growers.
